Change of Plans..... :-/

So, we decided to go mobile and travel full time so that we could be spontaneous....change our plans whenever we wanted....go wherever we wanted....be in control of our destinies....etc....etc...etc... Or as the Crabbie Ol' Man would say (and drive me nuts with) "Blah blah blah".

Well, little did we expect that our abilities to improvise, overcome and adapt would be put to the test QUITE so soon. I mean, after all, we aren't actually EVEN ON THE ROAD YET! <heavy sigh>

But apparently Karma, that great controlling Queen of my destiny, has other plans in mind. Back in March I had a fall/ankle twist at work which set me back a bit. I was a good girl, doing my physical therapy and making my occupational health nurse visits right on time, but the ankle has never quite recovered. I begged and pleaded my Occupational Health Nurse for an MRI and finally got one 2 weeks ago. (For those a little slow in the Math department, it took OVER FOUR MONTHS to get orders for my MRI!!!) It showed that I had torn 3....yes count them....THREE....ligaments in my ankle. Some of you may have seen the Facebook post about it. For those who didn't see it, here's the pic:

The Ortho wants to anchor the 2 smaller ligaments back to my lateral malleolus, then laparoscopically fish the anterior ligament back down to where it belongs and insert what he calls a "tightrope". Then....and here's the BEST PART (did y'all catch that sarcasm?!?!?) I will "get" to wear a cast for 5 weeks with absolutely positively NO weight bearing! What that all really adds up to is, I'm gonna be off my feet for FIVE WEEKS!!!!!!! And I'm PRN, so there is NO PTO. Workman's Comp doesn't want to pay anything, so the Crabbie Ol' Man and I are scrambling right now.

We will see how well I can accommodate the Doc's orders. Obviously, I need to work but really can't, but that is a fight with Workman's Comp which I don't think I will win. My duties will be "Light with Restrictions". Somebody tell me how a CT Tech is going to hump 4 or 5 patients an hour from the ER to my scan room under "Light Duty". :-/ And just how much work am I going to be expected to accomplish the first week in particular, when I should really truly be home with my ankle elevated while controlling my pain with medication?!?!? Oh, but Workman's Comp "does not allow pay for the first 7 days after an injury". What? My injury was FIVE MONTHS AGO?!?!? Yes....welllllll....... Shouldn't that date be AT THE

TIME OF MY INJURY?!?!?!?!?!?

At any rate, the Rollie House date stands. It just doesn't mean quite what it used to unfortunately. There were too many pieces of the puzzle already put into motion to back up, so we shall roll the Rollie House on August 1st no matter what. We will rock on with our plans to store stuff by our daughters' and then head on to Central Florida to set our "baby" up in his first apartment. But instead of then heading off onto our first assignment, when we are done with all that we will actually roll back to Central Texas so that I can have my surgery. I feel a big screw you coming. I suppose I should have expected it. My employer may be all about Human Care, but they sure don't give a flying fuzzy green freakin' leap about EMPLOYEE Care. :-/

I reckon things will be fine, and we'll haul out as soon as my ankle is "fixed". In the meantime, I will continue to update the site with our whereabouts and hopefully we'll run into some of you soon!
